Citizenship "What does it mean to be a good citizen?" [Philosophy Boxes] KS1-3 (P4C) PSHE SMSC Tutor

(0)
The Philosophy Boxes Method is a new approach to P4C designed for students in KS1, 2 & 3: it is graphically stimulating, engaging, and fun. This download is also suitable for older students: but the format was designed with younger students in mind. The topic of this Philosophy Boxes download is 'Citizenship: “What does it mean to be a good citizen?” The aim of Philosophy Boxes is to bring philosophy and critical thinking into every subject at every level: we believe that any subject becomes philosophy when students are asked the right questions and when they think about a topic hard enough and on the deepest (most fundamental) level. The Philosophy Boxes Method presents students with a set of ‘mystery boxes’, when a student selects one of the boxes they are presented with 1 of 21 discussion/debate activities [that use 1 of 8 different formats]. The presentation has integrated AfL so that teachers can test knowledge at any point in the lesson. There are 10 different AfL slides to choose from. The design is colourful, animated, fun and engaging: all activities require movement and teachers can decide whether students are expressing their ideas purely verbally or by using post-it notes. The nature of the design is that it can be used for short sessions (5-10 minutes) or much longer sessions (up to 2 hours!) - it allows for classroom practitioners to be flexible and adaptable. It can, therefore, be used in lessons or as a tutor-time activity. The download includes a PowerPoint Show; if you would like an editable PPT presentation so that you can make your own ‘Philosophy Boxes’ presentation you will need to download the template here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/-the-philosophy-boxes-method-template-for-creating-your-own-philosophy-boxes-lessons-p4c-p4k-11463227 A complete selection of Philosophy Boxes lessons can be found here: https://www.tes.com/resources/search/?&q=philosophy+boxes+godwin86 You can also save money by purchasing lessons as bundles.

Teacher Training & CPD: Metacognition & Self-Regulated Learning (Enhanced)

Teacher Training & CPD: Metacognition & Self-Regulated Learning (Enhanced)

(0)
The focus of the these teacher-training resources is simple: metacognitive teaching strategies, metacognition & self-regulated learning. This enhanced edition also contains additional teaching resources that will allow the teachers in your school to enact what they have learnt and apply new metaco These easy to use resources are perfect for Continued Professional Development (CPD) and are designed for in-house training, inset days and general teacher education. As with our other resources, the training materials are aimed at teaching professionals working with students aged 11-16 though they are also useful for those teaching students in further education. This full CPD resource contains eight CPD training sessions: An Introduction to Metacognition & Self-Regulated Learning Teaching Activities & Strategies for Metacognition & Self-Regulated Learning Using Debates & Discussions for Metacognition & Self-Regulated Learning Subject-Specific & Departmental Metacognitive Strategies Growth Mindset, Self-Regulated Learning & Boosting Brain Power Skills for Learning, Metacognition & Self-Regulation Long-Term Strategies for Metacognition & Self-Regulation Metacognition & DIRT - Dedicated Improvement & Reflection Time Each session is designed to last for at least 2 hours: we wanted to include more than enough for 2 hour teacher training sessions so that those delivering the lessons can ‘cut their cloth accordingly’ and adapt resources and timings according to their will. Ideally you should assign different teachers to deliver the different sessions so as to make the training more immersive, interactive, and varied. Each session includes a session-plan (akin to a lesson-plan) which provides a rough guide to timings and activities for the session leader. We advise delivering the sessions in the order presented above. This is a comprehensive training pack and includes everything you need for a 3-4 day inset. Metacognition Reflective Essay Toolkit (Self-Regulated Learning & Essay Writing Skills)

Metacognition Reflective Essay Toolkit (Self-Regulated Learning & Essay Writing Skills)

(0)
This metacognition teaching resource serves two primary functions: To teach students how to use the metacognitive cycle (planning, monitoring, evaluating and regulating) in relation to essay-writing: developing essay-writing skills To use essay-writing tasks as a way to encourage metacognitive reflection and help students gain metacognitive knowledge: developing metacognitive and self-regulated learning skills The download includes an interactive PowerPoint presentation that can be used for multiple (x12) one-hour learning sessions as well as an accompanying information sheet about using metacognitive strategies for essay writing. The learning sessions guide students through the essay writing process and dedicate time to planning, monitoring, evaluating and regulating the essay writing process. Twelve metacognitive/ self-regulated learning reflection topic options are provided with hints as to what students might want to include in their essays. The topics are: Building On My Strengths & Weaknesses in This Subject Effective Revision & Exam Preparation Strategies How To Learn More During Lessons How My Behaviour Impacts My Learning & My Rate of Progress How Do My Emotions, Moods & Attitudes Impact My Learning? Metacognition, Self-Regulation & Independent Learning in This Subject What Could I Do Differently In Order to Maximise Learning? How To Boost My Learning Power The Ideal State of Mind for Learning & How I Can Cultivate It My Obstacles to Learning & How I Plan To Overcome Them Factors That Influence My Ability to Learn and Remember Learning What Approach to Learning Works Best For Me Essay topics 1-6 are subject-specific and can be used by teachers of any subject to foster metacognition and lead students towards metacognitive knowledge their particular school subject whilst essay topics 6-12 are general metacognitive reflection rubrics. Aside from metacognition and self-regulated learning, we hope to work with educators towards building greater levels of learner autonomy in students: to this end the essay-writing session instructions also guide students towards developing their own assessment criteria that they (at the end of each session) will use to evaluate their own work. This approach ties in neatly with the ‘planning’ stage of the metacognitive cycle and helps students to consider the task requirements before engaging with it. Teacher instructions are included (integrated into the PowerPoint file), the general lesson plan when using this tool is as follows: Introduction/Lesson Objectives Assessment Criteria Creation Essay Planning Stage Essay Writing Task (With Monitoring Break) Evaluation Stage Regulation & Target Setting Stage The resource will help students to cultivate essay-writing skills whilst fostering metacognitive reflection: steering students towards metacognitive knowledge about their own learning processes and how to improve them.

Self-Awareness - PSHE [P4C Session] (Identity, Spirituality, SMSC, PSHE, P4C)

(4)
The topic of this Philosophy Boxes download is ‘Self-Awareness’. It is one of a series of PSHE-P4C sessions designed for KS2-4 PSHE leaders. The download comprises a P4C lesson/session that can be used multiple times with the same group. The Philosophy Boxes Method is a new approach to PSHE designed for students in KS2-4: it is graphically stimulating, engaging, and fun. This download is also suitable for older students: but the format was designed with younger students in mind. In this context: ‘Philosophy Boxes’ represents a more student-centred ‘debate & discussion’ approach to PSHE issues. The aim of our ‘Philosopy Boxes’ PSHE sessions is to bring deep, critical thinking to PSHE, exploring PSHE using P4C (Philosophy for Children) debates and discussions. One advantage to the method is that it helps students to practice their social skills through the activities. The Philosophy Boxes Method presents students with a set of ‘mystery boxes’, when a student selects one of the boxes they are presented with 1 of 21 discussion/debate activities (in 8 different formats). The complete selection of our ‘Philosophy Boxes’ PSHE lessons can be found here. You can also save money by purchasing lessons as a complete 20-session collection here!
